Course Description
Meeting requirements of the AIDS Omnibus Bill passed by the Washington State Legislature regarding HIV/AIDS education for employees working in a health care setting. OSHA’s bloodborne pathogens standard concerning universal precautions is emphasized.

Evaluation
Attendance: 50% OF GRADE – each day = 125 point x 4 = 500 pts
HIV/AIDS GROUP PROJECT: 50% OF GRADE = 500 pts
HIV/AIDS
The class will be divided in to 4 groups; Each groups will have a subject matter that deals with HIV, AIDS or dealing with patients and/or family concerns.
Group #1
What are some special issues faced by IV drug users and HIV? What are some additional considerations?
Group #2
What is meant by “universal precautions”? What are the pros and cons? What does OSHA require employers to do?
Group #3
You are going into a 2nd or 3rd grade class. You are to teach them about HIV/AIDS. Bring it down to their level of learning.
Group#4
What is HIV? What would be some family issues? How would this news impact the person and the people around them?
Group #5
What is AIDS? What would be some main issues for this patient? What are the costs involved in their treatment? What about insurance?
Each group will give a presentation to the class. Your presentation should include different sources of information. The presentation should be at least 15 minutes long. Everyone in the group must participate in the project and the presentation. The group and myself will be doing evaluations. Remember, 50% of your grade depends on this. Make it fun!!
