     WELCOME TO POLITICAL SCIENCE

The "father" of the discipline of Political Science is Aristotle. To Aristotle and his contemporaries of the ancient Greek Democratic Golden Age, to be political is unique to human beings, and as a consequence not to exercise politics is not only unacceptable as a social behavior, but most importantly a biological abnormality, to which they used a peculiar term: "idiote."

To Aristotle (and his contemporaries) politics is the "master science" simply because every other human activity is dependent upon political decisions that affect the "common-good" or as they put it, "the good society." Politics decides who lives and dies, who gets health care, who gets educated, in summary all the activities that allow human life possible. Politics allows human beings to pursue "life, liberty, and happiness" or not.

Therefore, to Aristotle, politics is not something that we human beings do on our spare time, but it's the activity that defines our very humanity. In other words, it's a state of mind of being in a constant engagement of the "common-good" and policies that will benefit the "collective" and not the narrow interests of the "self."  Let us emulate the example of Sisyphus. Much like Sisyphus who's perpetually in pursuit of an illusive if not impossible goal, achieves happiness with the journey of striving for the goal, and not the goal itself, let's emulate his example!
