How to Access Virtual Desktops

Students, faculty, and select staff may now log in to a virtual desktop from any computer or smart mobile device using either an app or their browser. Your virtual desktop gives you home and mobile access to the full WVC Windows 10 desktop experience, including
Microsoft Office 2016 and the contents of your My Documents folders.

Student side login instructions

  • If on your personal computer

    • Visit http://mypc.wvc.edu
    • Install the VMWare Horizon View Client for your operating system
    • Restart your computer
    • Run the program
    • Enter the server name mypc.wvc.edu if asked
    • Enter your student login and password (do not include your @student.wvc.edu email extension)
    • Make sure drop-down is set at STUDENT, not WVCADMIN
    • Click Connect

    If on a computer that is not your own

    • Visit http://mypc.wvc.edu
    • Click the button for VMWare Horizon View HTML access
    • Read the disclaimer and hit Accept
    • Enter your student login and password (do not include your @student.wvc.edu email extension)
    • Make sure drop-down is set at STUDENT, not WVCADMIN
    • Click Log In
    • Optional: change your browser to Full Screen mode to increase your screen space

    If on a mobile device

    • Search for and install the VMWare View app using your device's app store
    • Enter the server name mypc.wvc.edu if asked
    • Enter your student login and password (do not include your @student.wvc.edu email extension)
    • Make sure drop-down is set at STUDENT, not WVCADMIN
    • Tap Connect

Staff side login instructions

  • Follow steps described above to reach the login screen
  • Enter your staff side login and password
  • Make sure drop-down is set at WVCADMIN, not STUDENT
  • Log in
  • Choose Staff Windows 7 Desktop
    • Note: Logging in to WVCADMIN and then choosing the Student Windows 7 Desktop does not work as it results in an error

Set up your Outlook Exchange email account within your virtual desktop 

(Note: you only need to set up your Outlook account in your virtual desktop once. Your account information is remembered thereafter.)

  • From your virtual desktop, open Microsoft Outlook
  • Set up a new account
  • Choose the Manually configure server settings or additional server types option
  • Choose Microsoft Exchange server or compatible service
  • In the Server box, enter: ad-ex-wvcmail.wvc.edu
  • For User Name, enter your full WVC email address
  • Click Next
  • Wait while Outlook downloads your emails and other data
