Collection 1 Virtually Sublime

Virtually Sublime questions whether it is possible to achieve the painter’s notion of the sublime in the landscape through contemporary technology, utilizing satellite imaging as inspiration for paintings that are repeatedly fragmented and re-assembled through digital mapping and painting processes. The installation includes a 16 foot tall and 53 foot wide painting of a virtual (derived from satellite images) landscape of Mt. Rainier. A second piece involves a live projection of a painting of a satellite image of Mt. Rainier onto a white, scale model of the mountain.
